Reglazing instead of replacing saves thousands of dollars and days of demolition mess.
West Covina is largely post-war and later tracts, with a good share of rental property across the city. Most of what we’re called for here is fiberglass and acrylic tubs and shower stalls — including plenty that were reglazed or painted at some point and have started peeling — plus original porcelain and cast iron tubs in the older neighborhoods.
We handle:
We just completed the reglazing of a fiberglass shower stall with two built-in seats in West Covina — a unit that had been reglazed once before.
This was the opposite of the situation you sometimes get with a previous coating. Here there was no judgment call to make about how much to remove, because essentially the whole surface was peeling and flaking. When a finish has failed that broadly, none of it can stay: anything left behind becomes a weak point, and a new coating over a layer that’s already letting go will come off with it. So the whole thing came down.
That’s where the bulk of the work went — sanding the old coating off across the entire stall, including around both seats. Built-in seats add real surface area and a lot of inside corners and edges, and every one of those has to be worked as carefully as the open walls. Corners are where a rushed job shows up first.
With the old coating removed, we went straight into the cleaning. The unit itself was in good condition otherwise — no current damage to repair, which is often the case when the problem is a failed finish rather than a failed fixture. The stall was sound; it was the coating on it that had given out.
Then we masked the whole room — floors, walls, ceiling, and the shower frame. On a stall with this much wall area to spray, overspray has more chance to drift, so the room gets sealed off thoroughly before any product comes out.
Next we installed our ventilation and ran it out through the window to keep the fumes out of the house. That mattered on this job in particular, because there were tenants in the property. Pulling the air outside instead of letting it move through the place is the difference between people being able to stay in their home while we work and not.
Then we sprayed the bright white finish, and it completely changed the look of the whole bathroom. A stall that had gone patchy and flaking came back smooth, bright, and uniform, seats and all.
Every job finishes the same way: we hand over a post-care kit and our cleaning recommendations, so you know exactly how to keep the finish looking sharp.
This job was in West Covina, and we cover the neighboring cities just as easily — Covina, Baldwin Park, La Puente, Walnut, and Glendora.
If a previous reglaze or paint job is peeling on your tub or shower, call (310) 401-4491. It’s fixable — but the old coating has to come off first, and we’ll tell you honestly how much of it that means.
