Bathtub reglazing services in Desert Hot Springs

Desert Hot Springs is hard on bathroom surfaces. The area’s naturally mineral-rich water is the whole reason people come here, but it’s also why tubs and showers dull, scale, and discolor faster than they do elsewhere in the valley. Add the sun and the heat, and a fiberglass unit that would look fine for fifteen years somewhere else can look spent in eight. Most of what we’re called for here is surface wear on units that are structurally sound — plus a steady stream of spa, rental, and boutique-property owners who need bathrooms guest-ready quickly.

We handle:

  • Fiberglass and acrylic tub & shower enclosure refinishing
  • Mineral scale, hard water, and discoloration restoration
  • Chip, hole, and crack repair
  • Frame-removal damage repair (screw holes, silicone, torn edges)
  • Porcelain and cast iron tub reglazing
  • Tile, grout, vanity top, and sink refinishing

A recent job: frame-removal damage repaired in Desert Hot Springs, CA

If you’ve ever taken an old framed shower door off a fiberglass enclosure, you might already know how this story starts. Those metal frames are bedded in silicone and screwed straight into the fiberglass, and when they finally come out after years in place, they often take a piece of the surface with them — chips, gouges, screw holes, torn spots along the edges. The enclosure itself is still perfectly usable, but it looks rough enough that plenty of homeowners assume the whole thing has to be replaced.

That was the situation here. The frame had been removed, and the fiberglass underneath was left chipped and damaged where it used to sit. The customer didn’t want a full tear-out, and didn’t need one.

The first job was removing every trace of leftover silicone, which clings to fiberglass and hides in seams and corners. Nothing bonds to silicone — a finish sprayed over it will fish-eye and peel in exactly those spots. With that cleared, we deep cleaned the whole enclosure, dried it completely, then filled the chips, holes, and torn areas with fiberglass filler and sanded each repair flush with the surrounding surface. That sanding is the patient part: a repair left even slightly raised shows straight through a fresh coating.

Then the room got masked and we sprayed our bright white coating in even passes. The chips and frame damage that had made the shower look like a replacement job simply vanished under a uniform coat of white.

Frame-removal scars look alarming at first, but they’re very fixable, and a sound enclosure almost always has plenty of life left in it once the surface is restored.

How long does a reglaze actually last?

This is the question we get most, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales one.

A properly done reglaze on a sound fixture, cared for reasonably, lasts many years — long enough that most homeowners aren’t thinking about it again for a long stretch. What we won’t do is quote you a magic number, because the honest answer is that lifespan depends on three things:

1. The prep underneath it. This is the big one, and it’s invisible once the job is done. A finish sprayed over silicone residue, an unsanded surface, unrepaired rust, or a failing previous coating will start letting go within a year or two no matter how good the topcoat is. Nearly every peeling reglaze we’re called to fix failed for one of those reasons — not because reglazing doesn’t work.

2. How it’s cleaned. Abrasive powders and scouring pads wear through any finish, including the factory one. Gentle cleaners preserve it. This is the single biggest thing in your control.

3. What sits in the tub. Suction-cup bath mats are the most common cause of early failure we see — the cups grip the coating and pull at it every time the mat comes up. Use a mat made for refinished or glazed surfaces instead. Leaving standing water, shampoo bottles, or metal cans sitting on the surface doesn’t help either.

Out here specifically: the mineral content in the local water means scale will build on any surface, including a new one. The difference is that on a fresh, sealed, non-porous finish it wipes off, where on a worn and etched surface it sets in. A quick wipe-down after use goes a long way in this town.

What the warranty covers

Our work is backed by a 4-year warranty. In plain terms, that covers defects in the finish and workmanship — peeling, lifting, or bonding failure that comes from how the job was done.

We’d rather tell you upfront what shortens a finish than have you find out by voiding something. The post-care kit and cleaning recommendations we hand over at the end of every job cover all of it.

This job was in Desert Hot Springs, and we cover the neighboring cities just as easily — Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Morongo Valley, and Thousand Palms.

Chips, frame damage, mineral scale, or a surface that’s simply worn out — call (310) 401-4491 for an honest estimate, and we’ll tell you straight whether it’s worth doing.

Ilia is amazing at what he does and I whole heartedly recommend him. We have an old cast iron tub that has been reglazed once before, but it suddenly started peeling. I called Ilia, who answered right away, and said that he could come out on a holiday weekend to do the job. He was always prompt and courteous in his communications and his work was top notch!
