Bathtub reglazing services in Pomona

Pomona has a deep stock of older housing — early-1900s homes near downtown and the Lincoln Park historic district, mid-century tracts, and a lot of rental property around Cal Poly Pomona. Those bathrooms tend to have original metal, cast iron, and porcelain tubs with corroded drains, worn finishes, and chips that have been there for years. We repair and refinish them in place, and we’re straight with people about which repairs are worth doing and which ones create more problems than they solve.

We handle:

  • Metal, cast iron, and porcelain tub reglazing
  • Corroded drain repair and sealing
  • Rust, chip, crack, and hole repair
  • Fiberglass and acrylic tub refinishing
  • Rental turnover work for landlords and property managers
  • Tile, grout, vanity top, and sink refinishing

A recent job: corroded drain repair and tub refinishing in Pomona, CA

Just wrapped a tub refinishing job over in Pomona, and this one’s a good example of why we don’t just automatically run with the first plan. The tub was an old metal one, and honestly it was in decent shape. The only real damage was a small chip sitting right next to the drain. Everything else on the surface was solid.

The customer’s original ask was to have the drain swapped out for a new one. Made sense on paper — the drain was rusted, and there was corrosion running all the way around the ring. But once we got a close look at it, we had to be straight with them. On an old metal tub, when a drain is corroded like that, there’s a real good chance it crumbles the second you try to back it out. And when that happens, you end up with broken pieces of the drain ring stuck down in the pipe, and now a simple cosmetic fix has turned into a plumbing problem. We’ve watched it go that way before, so we’d rather not roll the dice on it.

So instead of forcing the replacement, we suggested a repair, and we walked the customer through the reasoning. We packed fiberglass filler all the way around the drain, sanded it down smooth, and then sprayed right over it as part of the refinish. Done this way, the drain stays sealed and protected, and it’ll actually hold up longer than a brand-new drain wrestled into a corroded old fitting. No risk of part of the ring snapping off in the pipe, no surprise repair bill stacked on top of the job they came to us for. That’s the kind of call we’d rather make — the one that saves the customer money and a headache down the road.

Past that drain repair, the tub didn’t need much. The surface was clean and the structure was good, which made for a smooth job. We did fresh caulking around the tub like we always do, since old caulk is usually cracked or pulling away from the wall, and it’s an easy thing to get right while everything’s already taped off. We masked the whole bathroom — walls, fixtures, floor, all of it — so there’s no overspray landing where it shouldn’t. Then we laid down a bright white finish that brought the tub back to looking new.

Knowing when not to do something

That drain is a small example of a bigger habit. Not every repair on the list is worth doing, and some of them create more risk than they remove. A corroded drain that’s still sealing water is doing its job — pulling on it is what turns a cosmetic job into a plumbing job. Solid grout doesn’t need to be torn out just so we can say we regrouted. A cosmetic crack in a shower floor that tests firm doesn’t need structural foam underneath it.

We’d rather tell you a step isn’t necessary than add it to the invoice. It’s also the reason we’ll tell you when reglazing isn’tthe answer — if a tub is cracked through, has a soft, failing floor, or is rusted past the point where a coating can save it, you’re better off replacing it, and we’ll say so.

What the job looks like

You’re not ripping anything out, not redoing the plumbing, and not going a week without a bathroom while a new tub gets ordered and installed. We come in, handle the prep, take care of any repairs the tub actually needs, and refinish the surface in a single day. It’s ready to use in about seven hours, and it’s backed by our 4-year warranty, so you’re not left wondering whether it’ll hold. The tub you already own ends up looking and feeling new for a fraction of what a full replacement runs.

Every job finishes the same way: we hand over a post-care kit and our cleaning recommendations, so you know exactly how to keep the finish looking sharp.

This job was in Pomona, and we cover the neighboring cities just as easily — Claremont, Montclair, Ontario, La Verne, and Diamond Bar.

Whether it’s a chip by the drain like this job, a finish that’s worn thin, or a tub that’s just lost its shine, it’s usually something we can bring back instead of tear out. Call (310) 401-4491 and we’ll take a look. We give honest estimates — if reglazing is the right move, we’ll tell you, and if it isn’t, we’ll tell you that too. No pressure either way.

Ilia is amazing at what he does and I whole heartedly recommend him. We have an old cast iron tub that has been reglazed once before, but it suddenly started peeling. I called Ilia, who answered right away, and said that he could come out on a holiday weekend to do the job. He was always prompt and courteous in his communications and his work was top notch!
