So that’s what we did. That step does two things: it knocks down the slick, glossy top layer of the old fiberglass, and it gives the new coating something to grip onto. Once the tub was cleaned, sanded, and ready, we ran a fresh bead of caulk all the way around the unit. Caulking the perimeter does more than look clean — it seals the tub up against water. Any gap where the tub meets the wall or the floor is a way in for moisture, and moisture behind a tub is how you end up with bigger problems down the road.
Then we masked off the entire bathroom. This part takes time, but it’s not optional. Reglazing throws a fine overspray, and that mist will drift and settle on anything it can reach. Floor, ceiling, walls, every surface outside the tub gets taped and covered. Done right, the only thing that gets touched is the tub itself.
With the room sealed off and the surface fully prepped, we sprayed the bright white finish.
