Bathtub reglazing services in Indio

Indio’s homes range from older neighborhoods near downtown to the large newer developments and country club communities spread across the valley. Most bathrooms here have fiberglass or acrylic tubs, and the desert’s mineral-heavy water is hard on all of them — surfaces go dull, discolor, and stop responding to cleaning long before anything actually fails. We also work with a lot of seasonal residents and rental owners who want a bathroom refreshed while the house is empty.

We handle:

  • Fiberglass and acrylic tub & shower refinishing
  • Discoloration, staining, and hard water restoration
  • Porcelain and cast iron tub reglazing
  • Chip, crack, and hole repair
  • Work scheduled while you’re away for the season
  • Tile, grout, vanity top, and sink refinishing

A recent job: discolored fiberglass tub refinished in Indio, CA

We just wrapped a fiberglass tub reglazing project in Indio, and this was one of those transformations that really shows why reglazing beats living with a tub that’s seen better days. The main problem here was soap scum built up heavy along the sides, and discoloration that had spread across the whole tub. The homeowner had probably scrubbed it a hundred times, but that’s the thing about fiberglass — once it discolors and dulls like this, no amount of cleaning brings it back. The damage is in the surface itself. The only real fix is to refinish it.

So that’s what we did. We started where every good tub refinishing job starts, with a deep cleaning — all that soap scum on the sides, the grime, the buildup, everything that had collected over the years. But cleaning alone isn’t enough on a job like this. After the surface was clean, we went over the whole tub with a light sanding. That step does two things: it knocks down the slick, glossy top layer of the old fiberglass, and it gives the new coating something to grip onto. A coating sprayed over a smooth, untouched surface won’t bond the way it should.

Once the tub was cleaned, sanded, and ready, we ran a fresh bead of caulk all the way around the unit. Caulking the perimeter does more than look clean — it seals the tub up against water. Any gap where the tub meets the wall or the floor is a way in for moisture, and moisture behind a tub is how you end up with bigger problems down the road.

Then we masked off the entire bathroom. This part takes time, but it’s not optional. Reglazing throws a fine overspray, and that mist will drift and settle on anything it can reach. Floor, ceiling, walls, every surface outside the tub gets taped and covered. Done right, the only thing that gets touched is the tub itself.

With the room sealed off and the surface fully prepped, we sprayed the bright white finish. The tub went from dingy, discolored, and soap-scummed to a smooth, glossy, bright white surface that looked brand new. It didn’t just change the tub — a bright white tub reflects light and freshens the whole room around it. The homeowner walked in and could hardly believe it was the same tub.

When cleaning stops working — and why

If you’ve been scrubbing the same tub for months with nothing to show for it, this is worth understanding. There are three different things going on, and only one of them is a cleaning problem.

1. Buildup sitting on the surface. Soap scum, body oils, and fresh mineral deposits. This is a cleaning problem, and the right cleaner plus some effort will get it off. If your tub improves noticeably when you scrub, you’re here.

2. Minerals etched into the surface. Desert water is mineral-heavy, and over years those minerals don’t just sit there — they work into the finish. Now the discoloration is in the surface rather than on it, and scrubbing can’t reach it. The telltale sign: it looks a little better right after cleaning, then looks exactly the same again in a day.

3. A finish that’s simply worn out. Fiberglass has a thin gel coat on top. Years of cleaning — especially with abrasive powders and scouring pads — wears through it to the more porous material underneath. That layer grabs dirt and stains faster than the original surface ever did, which is why an old tub gets harder to keep clean every year. This is the trap: the scrubbing that keeps it looking acceptable is what’s wearing it out.

Cases 2 and 3 are refinishing jobs, not cleaning jobs. A new coating gives you a smooth, sealed, non-porous surface again — so dirt sits on top and wipes away instead of soaking in. And the aftercare matters: gentle cleaner, no abrasive pads, and you don’t repeat the cycle.

Not sure which one you’re dealing with? Send us a photo. We’ll tell you honestly if it’s something a good cleaning would fix.

Away for the season?

A lot of Indio homes sit empty for part of the year, and that’s the ideal time for this work. No one is inconvenienced by the bathroom being out of use, the house has plenty of time to air out, and you come back to a bathroom that looks new. If you’re a seasonal resident or you manage a property for someone who is, call and we’ll coordinate access and timing around your schedule.

Every job finishes the same way: we hand over a post-care kit and our cleaning recommendations — which for hard-water country is genuinely worth reading.

This job was in Indio, and we cover the neighboring Coachella Valley cities just as easily — La Quinta, Palm Desert, Coachella, Indian Wells, and Rancho Mirage.

Whether it’s soap scum, discoloration, chips, or just a dated color, reglazing brings your tub back.

Ilia is amazing at what he does and I whole heartedly recommend him. We have an old cast iron tub that has been reglazed once before, but it suddenly started peeling. I called Ilia, who answered right away, and said that he could come out on a holiday weekend to do the job. He was always prompt and courteous in his communications and his work was top notch!
