Bathtub reglazing services in Montclair

A dull fiberglass shower drags down an entire bathroom, and fixing it doesn’t have to mean tearing anything out. Montclair’s neighborhoods are full of established homes, and a lot of them have fiberglass showers that have simply lost their shine — dulled finish, soap scum and hard-water buildup settled into the surface, grime ground into the textured floor. Nothing cracked, nothing failing. Just worn and tired in a way that makes the whole room look dated.

We handle:

  • Fiberglass and acrylic tub & shower refinishing
  • Porcelain and cast iron tub reglazing
  • Soap scum, hard water, and dull-surface restoration
  • Chip, crack, and hole repair
  • Caulk and silicone replacement
  • Tile, grout, vanity top, and sink refinishing

A recent job: dull fiberglass shower refinished in Montclair, CA

Once a fiberglass surface gets to a certain point, cleaning products stop earning their keep — the soap scum and minerals have worked into worn fiberglass, and the surface itself is spent. That’s when refinishing is the move.

We went at the cleaning hard, stripping the soap film, mineral buildup, and grime, and brushing the textured floor out where dirt collects in the anti-slip pattern. Then a light sanding to take the dull, worn layer down and give the coating a sound base, which also clears the last of the soap scum the cleaning didn’t lift. The old caulk came out and fresh caulk went in to seal the seams watertight. After masking the bathroom and running ventilation, we primed the fiberglass and sprayed several coats of bright white.

The shower came back bright, smooth, and clean — none of the dull, filmy look it came in with. One day, in place, with everything around the shower left exactly as it was: no demolition, no cutting into walls, no bathroom out of service for a week while a new unit gets ordered and installed.

How to care for a refinished tub or shower

This is the part that decides whether your new finish looks great for years or starts looking tired early — and it’s almost entirely in your hands. It isn’t complicated.

The first few days

  • Let it cure before use. The finish is ready in about seven hours; we’ll give you the exact window on the day. Don’t rush it — a coating that hasn’t hardened marks easily.
  • Keep it dry for the first day or so after that. No standing water, no wet towels or bath mats sitting in it.
  • Wait before caulking anything further or mounting hardware. If you’re installing new fixtures or a door, give the finish time to harden fully first.

Everyday cleaning

  • Use a non-abrasive liquid cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge. That’s it — a refinished surface is smooth and non-porous, so dirt sits on top and comes off easily.
  • Wipe down after use if you’re in hard-water country. Thirty seconds with a cloth prevents the mineral film that otherwise builds up.
  • Rinse well. Cleaner left to dry on the surface is what leaves streaks.

What to keep away from it

  • Abrasive powders and scouring pads. These are the number one cause of a finish dulling early. They physically wear the surface — they’ll do it to a factory finish too, just more slowly.
  • Abrasive melamine-foam pads (the white “eraser” sponges). They work by abrading. Same problem.
  • Harsh acidic or solvent-based products — heavy-duty lime and rust removers, drain openers, anything that warns about damaging surfaces. If it can etch a factory finish, it can etch this one.
  • Suction-cup bath mats. The most common cause of early failure we see. The cups grip the coating and pull at it every time the mat is lifted. Use a mat designed for refinished or glazed surfaces, or ask us about a non-slip floor treatment instead.
  • Adhesive appliqués and stickers. Same problem as the mats, plus residue.
  • Things left sitting on the surface. Metal cans, wet sponges, shampoo bottles with dried drips — all of them mark a finish over time.

Small repairs

If the finish gets chipped — something heavy gets dropped — don’t wait it out and don’t try to fix it with a hardware-store kit. A small chip in a coating is a quick touch-up if it’s handled early, and a much bigger job once water has gotten under the surrounding finish. Just call us.

Every job finishes with a post-care kit and these recommendations in writing, so nobody has to remember it from a conversation on the day.

This job was in Montclair, and we cover the neighboring cities just as easily — Ontario, Upland, Claremont, Pomona, and Chino.

If your tub or shower has gone dull and filmy, restoring the surface beats replacing it. Call (310) 401-4491 for an honest estimate — if it’s not the right call, we’ll say so.

Ilia is amazing at what he does and I whole heartedly recommend him. We have an old cast iron tub that has been reglazed once before, but it suddenly started peeling. I called Ilia, who answered right away, and said that he could come out on a holiday weekend to do the job. He was always prompt and courteous in his communications and his work was top notch!
