Reglazing instead of replacing saves thousands of dollars and days of demolition mess.
Long Beach has some of the oldest and most varied housing in the region — craftsman and Spanish revival homes in Belmont Heights, Bluff Park, and Rose Park, mid-century tracts further east, and a large stock of duplexes and apartment buildings throughout the city. That mix means we see the full range: original cast iron tubs with worn enamel, porcelain tubs stained past the point cleaning helps, and fiberglass and acrylic units that have gone dull and chipped.
We handle:
Here’s a recent job we completed in Long Beach — an oval tub and shower combination that was in good shape overall. No cracks, nothing structural, just a couple of small chips on the bottom and along the sides, plus soap scum built up between the fake tile lines on the walls.
That last part is worth explaining, because these molded units catch a lot of people out. The walls are one continuous piece of material cast with a tile pattern pressed into it — the “grout lines” aren’t grout at all, just recessed channels in the surface. There’s nothing to regrout, but those channels still collect soap film and grime, and because they sit lower than the rest of the surface, ordinary cleaning skates right over them. That’s usually what makes a unit like this look dingy even when the material itself is fine.
So we started with a deep cleaning, as usual, working each of those molded lines out along with the rest of the enclosure. A coating bonds to the surface itself, not to whatever’s sitting on top of it, so nothing goes down until the whole unit is genuinely clean.
Then we took care of the chips, filling them and bringing them flush with the surrounding surface so they wouldn’t show through the new finish. After that we re-caulked between the wall and the unit to make sure the seams were properly sealed. Running the caulk before the spray means it gets coated along with everything else, so the transition between the wall and the unit comes out continuous instead of leaving a separate bead sitting on top of the finish.
Next we masked all the fixtures and the walls and covered the floor to prevent any overspray from landing where it shouldn’t. Reglazing throws a fine mist that drifts onto every surface it can reach, so the room gets sealed off completely before any product comes out. Then we set up our ventilation to keep the fumes out of the house while we worked.
Finally we sprayed our polyurethane coating over the whole unit for durability. Polyurethane is what gives the finish its gloss and its ability to stand up to daily use, hot water, and regular cleaning without dulling out. Built up in even coats, it left the tub and surround smooth, bright, and glossy — the chips gone, the molded tile pattern crisp and clean instead of grimy, and the whole unit reading like a new install.
Every job finishes the same way: we hand over a post-care kit and our cleaning recommendations, so you know exactly how to keep the finish looking sharp.
This job was in Long Beach, and we cover the neighboring cities just as easily — Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Lakewood, Signal Hill, and Cypress.
