Trabuco Canyon and the surrounding canyon communities are large-lot properties with bigger bathrooms than you find in most of Orange County — oversized walk-in showers, soaking tubs, and multiple bathrooms per house. Remodeling one of those is a major expense, and getting contractors out this far adds to it. Reglazing is the efficient alternative: we bring everything with us, work in one visit per fixture, and can scope several bathrooms in the same trip.
We handle:
Just finished a shower reglazing job up in Trabuco Canyon and figured I’d write this one up too. Different setup than most of the jobs we do because Trabuco Canyon is one of those spots where the houses are spread out, lots of bigger lots, and the bathrooms tend to be on the larger side. This one was no exception. Big walk-in fiberglass shower unit, plenty of room to work in, which is always a relief when you’re hauling equipment in and setting up for spraying.
The homeowner had taken on a small project before calling us. She wanted to get rid of the old shower door and the metal frame around it, partly because the frame was starting to look dated and partly because the seal around it had been leaking. So she had a handyman pull the door and frame off, which left her with what most homeowners don’t expect: a row of holes where the screws had been mounted into the fiberglass, a long stripe of old caulking baked onto the surface where the bottom of the frame had sat, and a shower unit that suddenly looked worse than it did before she started. That’s when she called us about shower reglazing.
This is actually a really common scenario. People remove old shower doors thinking they’ll just clean things up and call it done, then realize the underlying fiberglass doesn’t look great either, and now they’re stuck with a half-finished project. The fix in cases like this is a tub shower combination refinishing job, where we essentially restore the whole surface back to brand-new condition and seal up all the damage from the removed hardware in the process.
First step was getting that old caulking off. Caulking on fiberglass is a pain to remove. It’s stuck on tight, it’s usually hardened from years of exposure to hot water, and if you go at it too aggressively you can damage the fiberglass underneath. We scraped it off carefully by hand with plastic blades, then went over the area with a solvent to dissolve any residue still bonded to the surface. After that we did a light sanding of the whole shower unit to knock down any high spots and give the surface some tooth for the new coating to grip onto.
Next came the deep cleaning. Even with the caulking gone, there was years of soap film, hard water deposits, and general grime built up on this thing. We worked the whole interior with our heavy-duty cleaner, scrubbing every section, paying extra attention to the corners and the bottom track area where buildup is always worst. Then a full rinse and dry.
Once everything was clean, we filled the screw holes where the old frame had been mounted. Fiberglass body filler is the right material for this. It bonds to fiberglass properly, it sands down smooth, and it doesn’t shrink as it cures. We filled each hole, let it set, then sanded each spot flush with the surrounding surface so the holes would disappear completely under the new coating. Done right, you can’t tell there was ever a frame mounted there.
Masking is a bigger job than people realize on a walk-in shower. There’s more surface area to cover than a regular tub job, more wall space, and on this one the bathroom was big enough that we had to mask off a lot of square footage. We covered the floor, the surrounding walls, the door, the ceiling above the shower, and ran our ventilation tubing out to the window so the fumes had somewhere to go.
Then we sprayed. Several coats of our bright white industrial coating, applied in even passes, letting each coat flash off before going back over. The finish came out clean and glossy, the holes were gone, the caulking line was gone, and the unit looked like new.
Bathtubs come back the same way — a stained porcelain tub, a chipped cast iron classic, or a dull fiberglass combo gets the same careful prep, repairs, and even sprayed finish, in a single visit, backed by our 4-year warranty.
Every job finishes the same way: we hand over a post-care kit and our cleaning recommendations, so you know exactly how to keep the finish looking sharp. A good reglaze isn’t just about the day we finish — it’s about how it holds up years down the road, and that comes down to the right prep on our end and the right care on yours.
This job was in Trabuco Canyon, and we cover the surrounding canyon and south county communities just as easily — Coto de Caza, Rancho Santa Margarita, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, and Silverado.
