When our customer in Corona stepped back into her bathroom at the end of this project, what she saw was a smooth, even, bright white tub that looked like it had come straight from the showroom. What she couldn’t see was everything sitting underneath that finish, and that hidden part is where a reglazing job is really won or lost.

Her tub was porcelain and, fortunately, in good shape. No deep chips, no cracks, no structural trouble to work around. That meant we could skip the repair stage and put our attention where it matters most on a sound surface, which is preparation. People sometimes assume a tub in decent condition needs less work, but the prep is exactly what lets a fresh coating bond tightly and last for years instead of months.

We started with a thorough deep cleaning of the entire tub. Even a tub that looks clean carries a film of soap, body oils, and mineral buildup that you’d never catch by eye, and anything left behind will keep a new coating from gripping the way it should. So we cleaned the surface down to the point where it was ready to take primer, not just looking tidy but chemically clean.

With the tub clean, we turned to the grout and ran fresh caulk along the joint for a tighter seal. Sealing that line keeps water from working its way into the seam over time, which is one of the quiet ways a tub starts to fail from the edges in.

Next came protecting the room. We masked off the whole bathroom so not a speck of overspray could land where it wasn’t wanted, then set up ventilation to keep the air moving and clear while we sprayed. A reglazing coating goes on as a fine mist, and good airflow makes for both a cleaner finish and a safer workspace.

Then the coating itself, which goes on in stages rather than all at once. The first coat was an adhesive primer. Its whole job is to create a strong bond between the porcelain and everything that follows, almost like a handshake between the old surface and the new finish. Skip it or rush it, and the coats on top have nothing solid to hold onto.

Over that primer, we applied several coats of bright white polyurethane. The polyurethane is what gives the finish its hard, glossy, water-resistant surface, and building it up in several thin coats instead of one heavy layer is what produces that deep, even shine with no runs or thin spots. Coat by coat, the tub took on the smooth, factory-like look she had been hoping for, with the kind of even white finish that’s hard to tell apart from a brand-new fixture.

Once everything had set, we pulled all the masking and showed her the finished tub. She was very pleased, and that’s the part of this work we never get tired of. There’s a particular look people get when they realize the tired tub they were ready to replace now looks brand new, and it shows up again and again on jobs like this one.

That’s the case for reglazing a tub that’s still fundamentally sound. Instead of tearing out a perfectly good porcelain tub and paying for a full replacement, this homeowner kept what she already had and ended up with a surface that looks new, for far less money and far less disruption to her home. We’re proud to do this kind of work for homeowners across Corona and the surrounding Riverside and San Bernardino county communities, one careful job at a time.

Stephenie Miller from Fontana:

Ilia is amazing at what he does and I whole heartedly recommend him. We have an old cast iron tub that has been reglazed once before, but it suddenly started peeling. I called Ilia, who answered right away, and said that he could come out on a holiday weekend to do the job. He was always prompt and courteous in his communications and his work was top notch!
