Porcelain tub reglazing in Chino Hills

Just wrapped a porcelain tub reglaze over in Chino Hills, and this one’s a favorite kind of job because there was nothing actually wrong with the tub — it was purely about giving the customer the bathroom they wanted.

The tub was an old porcelain one, and structurally it was in perfect condition. No chips, no cracks, no worn-out spots, no staining. Solid as the day it was installed. The only “problem” was the color. It was pink — that vintage pink you see in a lot of older homes from a certain era — and the customer simply didn’t like it. A pink tub can date an entire bathroom, and no matter how nice the rest of the room is, that one fixture keeps pulling it back a few decades. So they hired us to do something a lot of people don’t even realize is possible: keep the perfectly good tub they already had, and change it from pink to bright white.

That’s one of the most underrated things about reglazing. People tend to think of it as a repair service — fixing chips, stains, peeling, that kind of thing. And it is. But it’s also a color service. If your tub is in good shape and you just can’t stand the color, you don’t have to rip out a perfectly functional tub and pay for a new one plus the demolition and plumbing that comes with it. You can have it refinished in the color you actually want. Pink to white, almond to white, whatever the case — same tub, completely different look.

Here’s how the job went.

Even though the tub was in great shape, the prep still gets done properly, because that’s what makes the new finish bond and last. We started by removing the old coating from the surface, then moved into a deep cleaning to strip off all the soap film and grime that builds up over the years. After that we sanded the whole surface down, which scuffs the slick porcelain so the new coating has something to grip. A finish only holds as well as the prep underneath it, so none of these steps get rushed just because the tub looked clean to begin with.

Once the surface was cleaned and sanded, we masked off the entire bathroom to keep overspray from settling on walls, fixtures, or floor, and we set up our ventilation to pull the fumes out of the house and keep the air clear during spraying. Then we applied the new coating and sprayed down a bright white finish, building it up in even coats.

And the result completely changed the look of the bathroom. That dated pink tub became a clean, bright, glossy white one — and just like that, the whole room felt modern and fresh, even though the only thing that changed was the color of the tub. The customer was super satisfied, which is exactly what you want on a job that’s all about giving someone the look they were after.

That’s the beauty of it. The customer kept a solid, good-quality porcelain tub, skipped the cost and mess of a full replacement, and still walked away with the bright white bathroom they wanted.
