Had a really nice project come together in Laguna Hills recently. We were brought in by a client to refresh two bathrooms in his new house. He had just bought the place and was set to move in within a couple of days, so he wanted to get a quick makeover done on the bathrooms before he settled in. Smart approach — getting work like this done while the house is still empty makes everything easier. No furniture to work around, no schedule to coordinate with daily life, and the homeowner gets to walk into a fresh space on day one. We were happy to help him hit that timeline.

This post is about one of the two bathrooms — the one with the fiberglass shower pan. The other bathroom had its own scope and we’ll get to that one separately. For this part of the project, the shower pan itself was in great shape structurally. No cracks, no soft spots, no chips worth noting. The only issue was that the surface was looking a bit dated. A little dull, a little yellowed, just showing its age the way fiberglass does over the years. Nothing wrong with the pan as a piece of plumbing, it just didn’t fit the fresh, bright feel the customer was going for in his new home.

This is actually a really common scenario for us. People buy a house, like the bones of the bathroom, and just want to update the finish to make the space feel new. Reglazing is perfect for that. You don’t have to demo a fiberglass pan that’s still doing its job — you just bring the surface back to a clean, bright white finish and the whole bathroom feels different.

We started the work with a thorough deep cleaning of the entire shower pan. Even a unit in good shape has years of buildup on it that you can’t always see — soap residue, mineral deposits from the water, fine traces of body oil and shampoo that have settled into the surface over time. We worked the whole pan down to a clean, neutral base. This part of the job sets up everything that comes after. The cleaner the surface, the better the bond between the new finish and the fiberglass underneath, and the longer that finish is going to last.

After the deep cleaning, we ran fresh caulking all the way around the pan where it meets the wall. The original caulk had done its time and was due for replacement, which is normal on any unit that’s been in regular use. Running new caulk before the spray means it gets coated along with the rest of the surface, so the transition between the pan and the wall comes out looking continuous and clean instead of having a separate bead sitting on top of the finish.

Then we masked the whole bathroom carefully. Plastic and paper over the walls, the floor, the fixtures, the vanity, the hardware — anything that wasn’t getting sprayed got covered. With the homeowner moving in so soon, the last thing we wanted was any overspray landing where it shouldn’t. So we took our time and got everything sealed up properly.

After the masking was set, we got our ventilation system running to pull fumes out of the house during the spray. This is standard practice for us on every job. Keeps the air in the rest of the home clean and makes the workspace comfortable.

For the actual coating, we started with a coat of adhesive primer. This is one of those steps that doesn’t get talked about much but it’s a really important part of getting a long-lasting finish on fiberglass. The primer’s job is to create a strong bond between the existing fiberglass surface and the new coating that goes on top of it. Without that primer layer, even a perfectly prepped surface isn’t giving the topcoat its best chance to grip the way it should. So we put it down evenly across the whole pan, let it set, and then moved on to the finish coat.

The topcoat was our polyurethane coating in bright white. Polyurethane is what gives the pan its durability, its gloss, and its ability to stand up to daily use and standard cleaners over the long haul. We laid down our coats nice and even, built up the depth and the shine the way we like to see it, and let the whole thing cure properly before we touched anything.

When we pulled the masking down, the shower pan looked completely transformed. From a dated, yellowed surface to a bright, glossy white finish that fit right into the fresh feel the customer was going for. The whole bathroom suddenly felt updated, and we hadn’t touched the walls, the plumbing, the tile, or anything else. Just the pan.

The customer was really happy with how it came together, especially with the timeline. He moved in on schedule with a bathroom that felt brand new on day one, without going through the cost or disruption of a tear-out.

If you’re moving into a new house and want to do quick, high-impact updates before you settle in, this kind of project is one of the smartest moves you can make. Reglazing a fiberglass pan, tub, or shower is fast, clean, and the result feels like a much bigger remodel than it actually is. Give us a call and we’ll come take a look at what you’ve got — and if you have more than one fixture or bathroom you’re thinking about, we can scope the whole thing together.

Ilia is amazing at what he does and I whole heartedly recommend him. We have an old cast iron tub that has been reglazed once before, but it suddenly started peeling. I called Ilia, who answered right away, and said that he could come out on a holiday weekend to do the job. He was always prompt and courteous in his communications and his work was top notch!
