Here’s the last reglazing project we completed in Temecula, and it was a pretty unique one — a fiberglass shower with fake tile walls. If you’ve never seen one, it’s a molded fiberglass unit cast with a tile pattern, grout lines and all, made to look like a real tiled shower without actually being tile. They’re not a common unit, and they call for a slightly different approach than a smooth fiberglass wall, so this was a fun one to work on.

We started with a deep cleaning, and on a unit like this the cleaning takes extra attention. Those molded tile lines look just like real grout lines, and they behave like them too — they’re recessed, so they collect the most grime when you’re showering. Soap scum, body oil, hard water residue all settle down into those grooves where a quick wipe never reaches. So we brushed each tile line individually, working the buildup out of every channel across the walls. If you leave that grime sitting in the grooves, the coating has something fighting against it from the start, and you’ll see it later. Getting down into each line is what makes the difference on a faux-tile surface.

Then we took care of the damage. There were a couple of chips on the walls — most likely something sharp got dropped and caught the surface, which is how most wall chips happen. We filled those with fiberglass filler, building them back solid and flush so they’d vanish under the new finish. Filling chips properly matters even on the walls, because an open chip lets water start working into the fiberglass over time.

After the repairs, we ran new caulking all the way along the shower rail and around the shower. Those seams — where the unit meets the walls, the floor, and along that rail — are where water tries to sneak behind the surface, so fresh caulk seals it all up tight and gives the unit a clean, finished edge before any coating goes down.

With the prep done, we masked the whole room to minimize any overspray. Walls, floor, fixtures, everything outside the shower got taped and covered, since reglazing throws a fine mist that drifts onto any surface left exposed. Then we set up our commercial ventilation system to keep the fumes out of the house during the spraying process. That equipment pulls the fumes and overspray out of the space so they’re not hanging in the air or drifting through the rest of the home while we work.

Then came the coating. We sprayed several coats of commercial grade polyurethane bright white coating. Polyurethane is a tough, durable finish built to stand up to daily showers, and the commercial grade product holds up even better over the long haul. Building it up in several coats — rather than one heavy pass — gives you a deeper, more even surface and that smooth, glass-like finish when it’s done. On a faux-tile unit, the coating flows over the molded tile pattern and leaves the texture intact, so it still reads as tile, just clean and bright white now instead of dull and grimy.

In the end, the shower completely changed. It went from a tired faux-tile unit with grimy lines and chipped walls to a fresh, glossy, bright white surface that looks and feels brand new. The molded tile look is still there, but now it’s crisp and clean instead of worn, and the whole bathroom feels fresher for it.

This job was in Temecula, but we handle shower refinishing and fiberglass shower reglazing all over Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange County — including the less common units like faux-tile fiberglass that not every shop knows how to handle. Chips, grimy molded grout lines, dull surfaces, dated colors — whatever you’ve got, we’ll tell you honestly whether reglazing is the right move. We give honest estimates and we stand behind the work.

Ilia is amazing at what he does and I whole heartedly recommend him. We have an old cast iron tub that has been reglazed once before, but it suddenly started peeling. I called Ilia, who answered right away, and said that he could come out on a holiday weekend to do the job. He was always prompt and courteous in his communications and his work was top notch!
