Just wrapped up a bathtub reglazing job in Aliso Viejo and wanted to share how it went. The homeowner had a porcelain tub in that old-school pink color you usually see in homes built a few decades back. The tub itself was still solid, but the color just wasn’t working for them anymore. Instead of going through the headache and cost of a full replacement, they reached out to us about reglazing it.
Here’s how the project came together.
The first step was pulling out all the old caulking around the tub. You can’t lay a new finish over old caulk, and most of the time it’s already past its prime anyway.
Once that was out, we got into the deep cleaning. This part is bigger than people give it credit for. We scrubbed the surface down, then sanded and etched it so the new coating has something to actually bond to. Skip this step and the finish peels on you in a year.
While prepping, we found a couple of chips and minor scratches in the tub. We patched and smoothed those out so the final coat would come out clean instead of carrying that old damage underneath.
After that we ran new caulking where it was needed, then masked off the entire bathroom — walls, floor, fixtures, hardware — so no overspray would land where it shouldn’t. We also set up our ventilation system to pull the fumes out of the house while we sprayed. That one’s non-negotiable on every job we do. Nobody wants their house smelling like chemicals for the next two days.
With everything prepped and protected, we sprayed the tub with our commercial-grade glaze. This is the same coating used in hotels and rental properties, so it holds up to daily use and cleaning.
Once it set, we pulled all the masking down, cleaned up the space, and walked the customer through the finished tub. They went from a pink tub they couldn’t stand to a clean white finish they’re actually excited to use — and they saved a serious amount of money compared to ripping it out and starting over.
If you’ve got a tub that’s the wrong color, chipped up, or just looking tired, reglazing is almost always the smarter move. Give us a call and we’ll come take a look
